International Ataturk Airport, is one of the two international airports serving Istanbul, located in the European side of the city, in Yesilkoy district.
The distance to Sultanahmet (Old City) is around 20km and to Taksim (City center) is around 25km. This is why the total transfer to the Old City takes around 40 minutes and to City center 1 hour. Always according to the traffic.
There are several ways to get to the city from the airport:
1. By taxi: there are taxis right outside the exit gate and they can drive you wherever you want. The only negative is that in case there is traffic, the cost of your fare will highly increased. Moreover if you have many luggages, you must take more than one taxi.
2. By Havatas: you can also take a Havatas bus right outside the exit gate. These buses depart every 30 minutes and the ticket costs 11TL per person. It takes 45 minutes to city center, always depending on the traffic.

3. By metro: you can use the metro, located right next to airport. But it will be a bit complicated to reach your destination, because you would have to do 2 or maybe 3 transits.
--To Sultanahmet—take the M1a red metro line and get off at Zeytinburnu. From there you will have to walk to tramway station so you can take the T1 tram heading to Kabatas or Eminonu and you will get of at Sultanahmet or Sirkeci, depending where is your hotel located. When you reach the old city, you will have to walk until your hotel
--To Taksim—take the M1a red metro line and get off at Yenikapi. From there take the M2 green metro line and get off at Taksim. When you reach the city center, you will have to walk until your hotel
...Or you can choose TTG transfer agency, for a relax and safe ride to your destination! No need to worry about the traffic, the heavy luggages or your hotel location!
